How do I set up two-factor authentication?
Before explaining how to set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), let’s go over what it is and how it helps protect your account.
What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security measure that requires two different methods to verify your identity before you can access your Sesame account.
You can think of it as having two locks on a door. The first is your password, and the second is the 2FA code. Even if someone gets hold of one key, they’ll still need the other to get in.
What should I do if 2FA is enabled when I log in?
If your administrator has activated 2FA in Sesame, you’ll see a QR code when logging in. You’ll need to scan this code using an authentication app that you can download on your phone. These apps generate unique verification codes.
We recommend using one of the following: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, or Authy.
While setting up one of these tools, you can log in from your computer.
There are two ways to set up 2FA:
- QR code method.
- Manual code method (if the QR code doesn’t work).
1. How to set up 2FA with a QR code
- Log in to the Sesame app with your email and password.
- Scan the QR code using one of the recommended 2FA apps (e.g. Google Authenticator).
- Go back to the Sesame app and click "Next".
- Enter the numeric code generated by the app.
- Done! You’ve successfully logged in using two-factor authentication.
2. How to set up 2FA with a manual code
- Log in to the Sesame app with your email and password.
- Below the QR code, click the link to use the manual code method.
- A 16-digit code will appear. Copy and paste it, along with your email address, into your authentication app.
- Go back to the Sesame app and click "Next".
- Enter the code generated by the app.
- Done! You’ve successfully accessed your account with 2FA enabled.
