How do I configure and enable geolocation for Sesame WhatsApp?
We’ll explain it in three steps:
- Go to Configuration >> Devices >> Mobile.
- Find and enable the toggle Require coordinates to clock in/out from mobile.
- Finally, click Save.
That’s it! From now on, every time an employee clocks in/out via WhatsApp*, the system will ask them to share their location in order to continue, and will determine whether they are working remotely or on-site.
Current location vs. real-time location
When clocking in/out via WhatsApp, the employee shares their current location, not their real-time location. This means the system records the device’s location at the exact moment the message is sent to register the clock in or clock out.
This behavior complies with Meta’s privacy policies (the owner of WhatsApp) and matches how geolocation works in our app, as the system does not perform ongoing tracking of the device after the clock in/out is recorded.
If you have enabled clock in/out blocking, the system will check whether the employee’s shared location is valid (that is, whether it falls within the radius you have defined). If the location is valid, the requested action will be recorded. Otherwise, the employee will be able to try again up to two times.
*Feature availability depends on local conditions and may vary by country.
