How can I tell which employees are working remotely?

The easiest way to check in real time if an employee is working remotely is by following this path:

Clock ins/outs >> Who’s In >> Remote.

Keep in mind: you must have geolocation enabled and configured. Otherwise, the Remote section may include all kinds of previous clock ins/outs, even those created manually.

You can also check who’s working remotely from the Clock ins/outs section.

Why does a clock in/out appear as "Remote"?

In Sesame HR, a clock in/out is considered remote when an employee registers their entry or exit outside the geolocation area defined for their workplace.

This may happen for several reasons:

  • The workplace doesn’t have a location configured.
  • The employee clocked in/out from a point outside the defined radius.
  • The device’s location wasn’t active or couldn’t be detected accurately.

How to prevent a clock in/out from appearing as remote

If you want to make sure clock ins/outs made in the office don’t appear as remote, it’s important to correctly configure the location of each workplace and set a radius large enough to cover the entire area.

Recommendation: define a minimum radius of 250 metres to compensate for small GPS signal inaccuracies.

Configure the geolocation of a workplace

Follow these steps depending on your needs:

  1. When creating a workplace: go to Workplace >> Create.
  2. If the workplace is already created: follow this path: Workplace >> Three dots >> Edit >> Add or edit the address and radius.

Important: you’ll also need to activate the "Require coordinates to clock in/out" option. This way, whenever an employee clocks in/out from their mobile or web panel, their coordinates will be requested, allowing Sesame to detect whether they’re working in the office or remotely.

You can find this setting for both mobile and web panel here:

  • Configuration >> Devices >> Mobile device >> Require coordinates to clock in/out from mobile.
  • Configuration >> Devices >> Web panel >> Require coordinates to clock in/out from the web.
