How does the response deadline work for custom requests?

When creating or editing a custom request type, you can set a response deadline so employees and managers know how much time they have to resolve each request.

How do I enable the response deadline?

  1. Go to Configuration >> Automations >> Custom requests.
  2. Create a new request type or edit an existing one.
  3. In the "Form" step, enable the "Response deadline" option.
  4. Enter the number of calendar days in the "Deadline in days" field.
  5. Save the changes.

From that point on, each new request of that type will show the requester the response deadline.

Additionally, the approver will receive automatic reminders:

  • A notification 5 days before the deadline, provided the configured deadline allows for it.
  • Another notification on the day of the deadline itself.

⚠️ Important: if the request type has requests pending management, you will not be able to modify the deadline or any other details of that type until they have been resolved.

What does it mean when a request appears as "Overdue"?

The "Overdue" label appears when a request exceeds the configured response deadline without having been approved or rejected.

  • It is not a new status: the request will continue to appear as "Pending," and the "Overdue" label will function solely as a visual indicator.
  • You can continue managing it as normal: approving or rejecting an overdue request works exactly the same as with any other pending request.
  • The deadline is calculated from the creation date: for example, if the request type has a 5-day deadline, it will become overdue 5 days after submission.

⚠️ Important: once the deadline has passed, no further reminders will be sent. We recommend checking the Requests inbox regularly if you manage request types with an active deadline.
