What is the out-of-contract request block and how does it work?
It is a company-level configuration that prevents employees from requesting holidays, time off, leave, or compensatory days on dates when the employee does not have an active contract. This avoids days being consumed or incorrect time calculations being generated in error.
Step 1: access the configuration
Go to Configuration >> Automations >> User blocking.
Step 2: choose the blocking mode
There are three possible situations:
-
Toggle disabled: current behaviour; nothing is validated.
-
Toggle enabled: blocks out-of-contract dates; if any employee does not have a contract configured, they will not be able to request any days.
- Toggle enabled with the exceptions box ticked: allows employees without a contract to request any date.
Step 3: save the changes
The new mode takes effect immediately from that point on. Existing requests or assignments are not affected.
Benefits
✅ Prevents holiday or time-off days from being assigned outside the employee's contract period.
✅ Reduces manual balance corrections by HR.
✅ Adapts to permanent, fixed-term, and permanent discontinuous contracts.
