What is the "Prioritize" function and how does it work?

When you have several rules that could apply to the same stretch of time worked, Sesame needs to know which one goes first. By default, the system orders rules by creation date (oldest first), but with Prioritize, you can reorder them as many times as you want to give some priority over others according to your collective agreement.

For example, if an employee works in the early hours of a public holiday, they will probably have a night-work multiplier rule and a public holiday rule assigned that could apply to those same hours. Priority will decide which of the two takes precedence over that time.

Bear in mind that the Prioritize function orders rules within their own list. In other words, it does not mix multiplier rules with categorization rules. Each section has its own button and its own order.

To set the priority order of your rules:

  1. Go to Configuration >> Time management >> Multiplier rules / Categorization rules and click "Prioritize".

  2. In the sorting prompt, you will see all the rules in that section. Drag and drop to change their position in the list. Remember: the one at the top always wins.

  3. When you are done, click "Save" and decide from when you want the new priority to apply:
    1. If you choose "Apply from today", balances up to this moment will not be touched.
    2. If you choose "Apply to all history", the new order will also be applied retroactively, which may modify balances already generated.

We recommend always using "Apply from today". Reserve "Apply to all history" for when you need to correct a configuration error that has affected past balances. And always, before applying a retroactive change, check how many employees are affected.
