How to request days off for worked public holidays?

With Sesame, you can request to work on a public holiday, and in return, receive time off as compensation. In this entry, we’ll walk you through the entire process step by step.

When you make a request to work on a public holiday, you’ll be entitled to a full day off (or half a day, depending on your administrator’s settings) as compensation.

From the dashboard:

When submitting a request to work on a public holiday, you'll need to choose between one of the following options before confirming:

  1. Compensate for the day at a later date

By selecting this option, the request will be registered, and it will be recorded that you're scheduled to work on the chosen public holiday.

Note: if the administrator has configured an approval workflow, a request will be generated and must be approved or rejected before the compensation is confirmed.

When this option is enabled, you can request a compensation day for working on a public holiday from the "My time off" section.

Click on "Request time off" to open the request modal. When selecting the type of time off, you'll see the option "Compensation for worked public holiday" available. Then, simply choose the date on the calendar that suits you best.

  1.  Request compensation day

By selecting this option, a second calendar will appear in the same view, allowing you to choose the compensation day right then and there. Once selected, the request will be confirmed.

Note: if the administrator has configured an approval workflow, a request will be generated and must be approved or rejected before the compensation is confirmed.

From the app:

When requesting to work on a public holiday, you'll be asked to choose between two compensation options before confirming the request:

  1. Compensate for the day at a later date

By selecting this option, the request will be registered, and it will be recorded that you're scheduled to work on the chosen public holiday.

Note: if the administrator has configured an approval workflow, a request will be generated and must be approved or rejected before the compensation is confirmed.

Once you confirm that you will work on a public holiday, a "Compensate worked public holiday" button will automatically appear next to the "Work on a public holiday" button in the Request time off menu. This allows you to request a compensatory day off later on.

  1. Request compensation day

By selecting this option, a second calendar will open in the same view. From there, you can choose the compensation day right away. Once selected, the request will be confirmed.

Note: since the compensation day is selected upfront, the "Compensate worked public holiday" button won’t appear later—there will be no pending time off to request.
