Can I add people to a channel without them needing to subscribe?

Of course you can! You can add as many people as you want to a channel without them needing to subscribe. How? Using the assignment modal.

Access the channel you want to add members to and click on the avatar of the person at the top. When you click, the assignment modal will open. Thanks to this, you can select all the people you want, and add them to your channel. Keep in mind that if your company is part of a group of companies, you will only be able to select the people you manage.

The people you add will see the channel in the list of channels on the left side of the screen.
