How to create and configure on-call shifts

An on-call shift is a special type of shift, as it allows you to manage specific coverage and availability needs.

In Sesame, you can create on-call shifts from:

  • Shifts >> Timetable >> Add >> Custom shift.
  • Shifts >> Timetable >> Add >> Shift template.
  • Configuration >> Timetable >> Shifts >> Add shift.

Follow this step-by-step guide to configure your on-call shifts:

  1. Start creating the type of shift you prefer by following one of the paths above.

  2. Check the box “Set as on-call shift”.

  3. Configure the shift details, such as day and working hours, breaks, and activities. You can also decide whether the on-call shift is on-site or on-call (standby).

  4. Define how the on-call shift will affect working time by enabling or disabling the "Count as planned time" toggle.

Not sure which option to choose? In this Help Center entry, we explain how on-call shifts affect time calculations so you can better understand each option.

That’s it! Don’t forget to click Save.

Once created, on-call shifts are displayed differently in the timetable so you can easily identify them. Look for the card with a dotted border instead of a solid one, and a clock icon next to the shift name.
