What are shift patterns and how do I use them?
Patterns are combinations of shifts that repeat in the same way every time. They help you speed up schedule configuration for your employees, especially when there are fixed rotations.
How to create a pattern
Go to Shifts >> Configuration >> Patterns >> Create pattern. You can choose between two types:
- Weekly patterns: define which days of the week are working days and which are rest days.
- Flexible patterns: sequences of daily shifts without taking the day of the week into account, based solely on the work-rest alternation.
Enter the pattern name and specify which shift you want to apply on each day. You can add up to 30 weeks or 30 individual days. Sesame will show you the total number of hours that configuration represents.

How to apply a pattern
Go to Shifts >> Timetable >> Select one or more employees >> Apply pattern (in the bulk actions menu). Then choose:
- Pattern: select the one you want from the list of created patterns.
- Start date: when the pattern will begin to apply.
- Number of repetitions: how many times the pattern will repeat.
The end date will be calculated automatically based on the start date and number of repetitions.
Once created, patterns appear in a list showing the name and assigned employees. Use the search bar to quickly find the pattern you need.
