How do I copy, paste, and drag shifts in the timetable?

The Shifts timetable works like a spreadsheet: you can copy, paste, and drag shifts. Below, we explain how to do each of these.

Copy and paste 👯

1. Go to Shifts >> Timetable, and select the Employees view.

2. Click on an employee's name to select their weekly schedule.

If you want to add more people to the selection:

  • Hold Shift and click on the name of the last person within a range to add them all to the selection.
  • Hold Ctrl/Cmd and click on a person's name to add individual rows to the selection without losing the previous ones.

3. With the selection active, press Ctrl/Cmd + C or click the copy icon in the top toolbar.

4. Click the cell or row where you want to start pasting your schedule, and press Ctrl/Cmd + V.

Please note 🤔: the paste function replaces whatever was there before at the destination, without asking for confirmation (just like in Excel or Google Sheets). If you make a mistake, you can undo the action instantly.

Drag and fill ➕

1. Go to Shifts >> Timetable, and select the Employees view.

2. Select a cell in the timetable. You'll see a small handle in the bottom right corner. Click and drag over the cells where you want to repeat that same shift. Release when you're done.

Drag and drop 🪂

1. Go to Shifts >> Timetable, and select the Employees view.

2. Find the shift you want and drag it directly from one cell to another.

3. When you hover over the target cell, you'll see it split into two halves: drop it on the left to move the shift, or on the right to copy it (it will remain in the original cell too).

Please note 🤔: if the target shift overlaps in time with the one you're dragging (an employee cannot have two shifts at the same time), you'll see a confirmation prompt before the change is applied.

How to do this in the Shifts view

If you work by shift type rather than by employee, you can copy the list of employees assigned to a cell and paste it into another day, always within the same shift type.

Things to bear in mind 🤔

  • These actions only work within the same timetable: you cannot paste something copied from a different timetable.
  • These actions are only available for shift and day-off assignments.
  • Press Esc or click outside the table at any time to clear the selection and the active copy.
